Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center
Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases traditionally comprise two principal categories: Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Other colitides include microscopic colitis, diversion colitis, radiation colitis, and diverticular colitis. The incidences of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease have risen dramatically in industrialized parts of the world. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis have their highest prevalence in Western industrialized countries of Europe and North America. IBD creates a large burden on society as a whole since the peak incidence is in late adolescence and early adulthood. This is the time where individuals are at their peak productive years and women are in their reproductive years.Â
In accordance with Providence Hospital, St. John Providence Health System, and Ascension Health’s mission and values, the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program is committed to the highest standard of care for patients and their families. The program is designed to provide a comprehensive approach to the surgical and medical management of people living with IBD using evidence based medicine. We have the technical and intellectual infrastructure for the integrated clinical care of IBD. Our faculty are board-certified gastroenterologists and colon and rectal surgeons who are leaders in their field. Providence Hospital consistently generates successful outcomes in gastroenterology and colorectal surgery.  We consistently receive 5 star (best) ratings for Gastrointestinal Surgeries and Procedures from health grades and multiple Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Awards. www.healthgrades.com
